General Information

Please carefully read all of the instructions below, as our requirements differ from instructions on the application forms. The American Citizen Services Units at AIT in Taipei and Kaohsiung accept passport applications and forward them to the National Passport Center in New Hampshire for production. Normal processing time is at least three weeks.

The status of your application should be available online 7-10 days after the application is complete.  To check the status, please click here.

Please note that AIT’s procedures and instructions are different from passport application procedures in the U.S. If you are in the U.S. and would like to apply for a passport, please visit the U.S. State Department.

All forms must be completed in English. When supporting documents (such as proof of marriage, divorce, death, birth) are required, they must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation.

We recommend that you renew your passport at least six months before it expires. Many countries in the region do not allow you to enter unless your passport is valid for more than six months. However, your passport can be used for return to the US for up to six months after it expires
